Moon Rituals
Ori & Iwa
In orisa lifestyle, time is reckoned by the phases of Òṣùpá (Osupa), the moon. Each New Moon signals the beginning of a distinct ritual sequence, which reaches optimal manifestation with the Full Moon, followed by gradual decline. The moon symbol reflects how the intermingling of masculine and feminine forces influences our personalities and moods. Symbolically, the "solar" principle represents the archetypal self, Ori. It is the purpose and Creator of the individual soul. The "lunar" principle governs the agencies necessary to fulfill one's divine purpose. The moon symbolizes Iwa, which is the quality of one's existence. It is emotional intelligence. And, in the same way that the moon reflects the sun, so does iwa reflect ori. And whereas ori is eternal, iwa is in constant flux.
