African Spirituality is Not DIY

This system is grounded in the Orisa tradition as a structured framework for identity, discipline, and alignment.

It is not a reinterpretation.

It is not an adaptation.

It is a process of formation rooted in established principles of order, practice, and identify formation.

There Are No New Fundamentals.

This training is grounded in the operational knowledge of Orisa Lifestyle.

It integrates:

  • Ese Ifá trains interpretation, pattern recognition, and consequence analysis.
  • OrĂkì trains identity recognition, affirmation, and alignment.
  • Proverbs train decision-making under constraint.
  • Apprenticeship structure trains discipline, repetition, and correction.
  • Lineage structure trains continuity and responsibility.
  • Community and settlement patterns train social function and accountability.
  • Family structure trains generational awareness and obligation

These are not presented as references.

They are used as indispensable structural components of training.

Multiple Disciplines. One System.

The Fundamentals of Orisa Lifestyle seamlessly integrates traditional wisdom, learning theory and developmentally-appropriate teaching methodology.

Nothing is included for appearance.

Everything is strategically placed for outcome.

What Students Are Saying

Adesua, Atlanta

I had a strong connection to the writings and teachings of Baba Obafemi and remember feeling the wisdom in his presence. I have a tendency to create drama where it isn't really necessary and Baba laid everything out in a very matter of fact way that made it practical and graspable for me in the overwhelmed state I have been in for a while. I think Baba is special in his merger of understanding of the function of the mind of a person through his apparent psychology training coupled with his vision into the causal realm.

Keisha, Oakland

I was eager to learn more from Baba Oloye,  who I've followed on social media for many years.

Baba Oloye's life experience as a leader,  is knowledge of western psychology, and role as an Awo and leader inspired me to enroll.

We studied the Fundamamentals of Orisa Lifestyle learning in a carefully structured course that moved through Physical → Ancestral → Communal → Universal. The construction of the course enabled a visceral understanding of the interconnection between these 4. We moved fast, through concepts presented intensely and intellectually. Personal accountability and empowerment were emphasized as well as spiritual expansion. We learned about IFA's ancient origins in Ife, over 5,000 years ago. We learned orisas were originally humans of great power.

Baba Oloye taught us to learn how to practice the gifts we inherit from our lineage while living a life informed by spirit—the guidance of IFA. We learned the urgency of developing talents we arrived with as a means to self empowerment, self realization. To quote your introduction to Fundamentals: "Action is Power."

In a word, the course was Transformational. The course's content was presented in beautiful visuals whose format, depth, scope and empathy were deeply affecting; from the photographs through designs concerning the number 4 as well as numerous references to human achievement: Maya Deren, Dr. Umar, Booker T . and so many other extraordinary Africans—this provided a rich context that is African (American) history in the disunited states of America and the Caribbean

One thing that is special about the instructor, Oloye Obafemi Origunwa? Integrity!

I was looking for a grounded, coherent introduction to the tradition. When I started looking on my own, what came back was scattered and often contradictory, and a lot of it is other people's opinions dressed up as teaching. I wanted to understand the worldview properly before trying to practice anything inside it.

I decided to enroll in the Fundamentals of Orisa Lifestyle because the teaching was rooted in lineage and in daily living rather than in mystique. I've spent more than twenty years in behavioral health and human services, and I can usually tell fairly quickly whether someone is teaching from lived practice or performing expertise. This read clearly as the former.

We worked through the foundations,  the worldview itself, ancestral veneration, the centrality of ìwà, and what consistent daily practice actually looks like. It was less about collecting information and more about reorienting how I understand my own life and my obligations to the people around me.

If I had to summarize the course in a single word, that would be "Grounding." It gave me a floor to stand on. I stopped guessing and started building on something stable.

One thing that is special about the instructor, Oloye Obafemi Origunwa is that he teaches you as a capable adult. He doesn't dilute the tradition to make it comfortable, and he doesn't wrap it in mystery to make it impressive. He explains, gives context, and expects you to do your own work  which is exactly why the work stays with you.

The Problem Is Not Awareness

You are not lacking awareness.

You are not lacking belief.

You are not lacking desire.

You are lacking structure.

You know you are African, but you cannot define that identity in a lived, repeatable way.

You have outgrown inherited systems, but you have not rebuilt a solid spiritual practice.

You engage the idea of spirituality, but without consistency, discipline, or measurable development.

Without Structure:

• Identity remains undefined
• Practice remains inconsistent
• Direction remains unstable

You continue:

• Collecting information
• Referencing culture
• Starting and stopping

Nothing stabilizes.

Nothing compounds.

Nothing produces outcome.

This Does Not Correct Itself

Without intervention:

• Identity remains fragmented
• Discipline does not form
• Direction does not emerge

Time does not resolve this.

You are not momentarily paused.

You are reinforcing and solidifying your current condition.

This is a System, Not a Course

The Fundamentals of Orisa Lifestyle is a structured training system.

You will be taken through a defined process of:

• Identity formation
• Ancestral alignment
• Communal function
• Universal order

You do not observe this system.

You enter it.

How the System Works

The Fundamentals of Orisa Lifestyle is based upon Baba Oloye's book by the same title. It consists of four modules. Fixed sequence. No deviation.

Module 1 — Physical Energy
Internal structure: Ara, Okan, Emi, Ori, which correlate to the body, emotion, life force, mind

Module 2 — Ancestral Energy
Egungun, Ori Iya, Ori Baba, Ori Inu, which inform lineage, inheritance, identity, destiny

Module 3 — Communal Energy
Egbe, Owo, Oja, Ori Isese, which correlate to community, function, exchange, character

Module 4 — Universal Order
Olodumare, Orisa, Ifa, Ori Apere, which reveal source, governing principles, knowledge, ascent

Each lesson requires:

• Reading
• Lecture
• Structured response

Progression is enforced through completion.

What You Will Be Able To Do

  • Define the spiritual structure of your identity
  • Identify ancestral forces shaping your life
  • Understand your role within your family and the community
  • Recognize how your value is tested through sacred service
  • Understand physical and metaphysical influences that determine your success
  • Align your behavior with your destiny

From Knowledge to Transformation

This is not exposure to tradition.

It is activation.

The system translates:

• Knowledge into identification
• Identification into correction
• Correction into discipline
• Discipline into stability
• Stability into mastery

Without this process, knowledge remains theoretical.

With this process, knowledge becomes functional.

What This System Produces

The Fundamentals of Orisa Lifestyle produces capacity, not familiarity.

You are not trained to reference the tradition.

You are trained to function within it:

  • The ability to interpret your reality according to spiritual structure
  • The ability to define your identity beyond your conditions
  • The ability to recognize and respond to the physical consequences of spiritual decitions

Who This Is For

  • Individuals experiencing identity fragmentation
  • Those who exited inherited systems without rebuilding new ones
  • Practitioners seeking discipline, not inspiration
  • Students ready for structured Orisa-based formation
  • Those prepared to be corrected by systems, order and structure

Everything Isn't For Everybody

This Is Not For:

• Passive learners
• Casual observers
• Individuals unwilling to follow instruction
• People seeking cultural decoration without discipline
• People looking for inspiration without formation
