"Ifa mythology reveals the specific dangers and techniques of spiritual development. In the relationship between Orunmila and Esu, we experience the juxtaposition of chaos and order, wisdom and folly. Sacrifice serves as the transfer of energies that equalize and harmonize contradictory or displaced forces. When one makes the prescribed sacrifice, the verses rely upon one of many motifs that signify happy ending: For example, Ifa says 'In the midst of all blessings of life does one find the followers of OPE, the sacred palm of IFA.' This motif, like others, indicates human capacity to overcome tragedy. It suggests that the ever-changing world, with all of its unpredictability can be managed and even made to work in one's favor. All that is necessary is the willingness to sacrifice according to the principles of wisdom. However, in addition to the discipline and mechanics of sacrifice, it is equally important to ENVISION the actual effects of sacrifice. In fact, the great advisor seldom satisfies himself with technical problem-solving. Instead, he will recognize the sacred text and sacrifice as the bedrock upon which you are to build an all new perspective.
