DAY ONE: The ODUNFA kicks off on Monday May 16 with a ARABA FAYEMI ELEBUIBON, who will screen his newest film, AKOSEJAYE! The film is about a family struggling to find value in traditional values in modern times, especially when it comes to the secret of raising children. After the screening, ARABA ELEBUIBON will host a reception, with Q & A.
DAY TWO: On Tuesday, May 17 we'll enjoy an orisa art show, curated by Olokun priestess, NEDRA WILLIAMS, featuring several Bay Area painters and an mbira musical performance by Mahea Uchiyama. Oakland is home to numerous artists who have been inspired by the beauty and power of orisa. Come out to enjoy, to mingle and to buy unique pieces for your collection. |

DAY THREE: On Wednesday, May 18 ARABA FAYEMI ELEBUIBON will deliver a lecture at Merritt College. The topic will be IFA, DESTINY & THE FOUR STAGES OF LIFE. The Yoruba view of lineage and destiny are inseparable. Every person is born into a family belonging to a particular lineage, and passes through the four stages of life by practicing afarabale (composure, behavioral obligations) appropriate to each stage of life. Come out to discover this secret of Orisa Lifestyle, revealed like never before!
On Wednesday evening, Eliciana Nascimento and Adimu Madyun will screen their films, the Summer of Gods and Search for the Everlasting Coconut Tree, respectively. The Summer of Gods is short film about a young girl named Lili who unites with her Afro-Brazilian religious ancestry on a summer visit with family to their ancestral village in rural Brazil. During her stay, she encounters Orisas who help her find peace with a gift that has previously vexed her. The film is set in the Northeast of Brazil where Afro-Brazilian religious traditions remain strong. Lili's Grandma upholds Orisa traditions as an admired local priestess.
Search For The Everlasting Coconut Tree is a film and album that chronicles the journey of musician and mentor WolfHawkJaguar (Adimu Madyun). As a facilitator for DetermiNation, a Black men's Group at United Roots in Oakland, California, WolfHawkJaguar is known for helping young men go from the life they know, to the life they want. Come and enjoy the films, meet the directors and purchase copies fr your personal collection!
DAY FOUR: Thursday, May 19 will be an Exclusive Training experience for initiated priests only. Here, ARABA FAYEMI ELEBUIBON will pass on deep insights and techniques for practicing Orisa Lifestyle for protection and empowerment.
DAY FIVE: Friday, May 20 is the official ODUNFA BANQUET & INAUGURATION. The Odunfa Banquet & Inauguration is a ceremonial event celebrating Obafemi Origunwa's twelfth year of Ifa priesthood. The 2016 Odunfa also affirms Origunwa's leadership as President of the Agbole Foundation of America. The ceremony marks the culmination of the Agbole’s liturgical calendar and the beginning of a New Year and is intended to provide ancestral guidance for the entire community. Don't miss this gala event, which will feature traditional Yoruba performance art, fine cuisine and special invocations recited by ARABA FAYEMI ELEBUIBON and inaugural address by OBAFEMI ORIGUNWA.
DAY SIX: Saturday, May 21, under the influence of the full moon, we will conclude festival with the all day ODUNFA BLOCK PARTY at ILE OMODE, Oakland's premier African-Centered learning institution. Come out to enjoy the live musical performances, children's games, food and community love!
