"Trust is earned. I repeat, trust is earned. So ask yourself, 'What are you doing to earn people's trust? Name some specific ways in which you demonstrate that you DESERVE the confidence you want people to have in you and your abilities?' Most people fail to earn the trust they believe they deserve because they refuse to accept the truth about their lack of trust building skills. Let's consider your ancestors, for example. Why should they trust you with the secrets of your lineage? Why should they reveal to you the family recipe for world class jambalaya, let alone financial independence? Sure, you get down and pray when you need something, which counts for SOMETHING. But what do you consistently practice that proves your trustworthiness?

One thing I do to build trust with the people I serve is to demonstrate that I know what kind of information is most relevant to them. Not only that, I give it freely. In so doing, I let people know that I understand their concerns. People trust me because I find many different ways to communicate that I am aware of what they want to achieve and what they want to avoid. By extension, what people want is what the ancestors want! Their deepest concerns are ancestral concerns. And so it is, that Ifa helps us to win the trust of the deities, the ancestors and our fellow man as well. Through ritual discipline - daily prayers, weekly veneration and regular consultation - we increase the levels of trust that help us to build strong, enduring relationships with our ancestors and people alike.
