The Three Learning Pathways

A structured approach to knowledge within the Ifá tradition

EXPLORE

Three Pathways, One Mission

The School of Orisa Studies organizes learning into three pathways. Each pathway represents a different function of knowledge: discovering hidden patterns, interpreting meaning, and applying wisdom in life.

You are not required to master all three at once. Most students begin where they are naturally drawn. All three pathways lead to one mission, which is to being about the Good Condition

Three Functions of Knowledge

Within the Ifá tradition, knowledge moves through three stages.  First, it is revealed. Then it is interpreted. Finally, it is applied.

These are not abstract ideas. They are lived processes that shape how you think, how you act, and how you fulfill your role in the world.

Each pathway reflects one of these functions.

Àkódà — Revelation

Prepare to perceive what is hidden.

This pathway trains your ability to recognize patterns, signals, and underlying structures within experience.

Students in this pathway learn to:

  • observe without projection
  • recognize symbolic patterns
  • develop sensitivity to spiritual communication
  • approach divination with discipline and restraint

This is the foundation of all deeper work, especially as a diviner. Without perception, interpretation becomes guesswork.

EXPLORE AKODA

Àṣẹdá — Interpretation

Study to understand what is revealed

This pathway develops your ability to interpret, articulate, and transmit knowledge.

Students in this pathway learn to:

  • understand itan and symbolic narratives
  • interpret patterns within context
  • develop philosophical clarity
  • communicate meaning with precision

Interpretation transforms perception into understanding. Without it, knowledge remains incomplete. This is particularly important for teachers and counselors.

EXPLORE ASEDA

Àgbọ̀ngbọ́n — Application

Practice to embody what is understood

This pathway focuses on applying knowledge through action, leadership, and disciplined living.

Students in this pathway learn to:

  • align behavior with insight
  • develop character and responsibility
  • lead within community contexts
  • build structures that reflect the tradition

Application is where knowledge becomes real. Without it, learning remains theoretical. This is integral to leadership.
