In Order to Change Your Life You Must Change Your Thoughts: 3 Golden Keys of Meaningful Change

A couple of years ago, I stumbled upon a video of Krishnamurti delivering a lecture entitled, "Why Don't You Change?" And while I do not recall much of the lecture itself, the title really challenged me to search for a meaningful answer to that very simple question; Why don't you change? What I have found is that biggest hinderance to personal progress and change is fear of our thoughts and emotions. 
 
The mind is a lot like an iceberg; you only see the tip, which represents the conscious mind.  The greater portion of the mind is the unconscious. This is the source of your ideas and motivations. Dreams, for example, come from the unconscious mind. And very much like dreams, you cannot control the unconscious mind. You can learn to interpret it. You can increase your awareness of it. You can learn to anticipate it, too.  But the unconscious mind is characterized as a force that transforms you without allowing itself to be changed.

Because the unconscious mind is so powerful, your relationship to it has a very significant impact on your ability to change. As a matter of fact, your ability to engage your unconscious mind may very well be the most important gateway to complete transformation. Here. I am going to share with you Three Golden Keys of Meaningful Change. With these Golden Keys, you can unlock the limitless potential  hidden in your unconscious mind:
  1. Thoughts Create Reality: It is your thoughts - not events, nor the actions of others - that cause painful emotions and experiences. Your thoughts generate your fears. Fear activates "survival mode", causes you to fight imaginary battles and create enemies out of simple disagreements. As long as you focus on your fears, you will inevitably communicate in ways that only deepen the painful emotions you likely already feel. Ever had an argument that lasted for days? Then, by the time you come out of it, you cannot even remember what you were fighting for. It's a vicious cycle. 
  2. Make Darkness Conscious: What you don't know about yourself will enslave you. Stated another way, unless you consciously reflect on your thoughts, feelings and actions, your efforts to have healthy relationships and make meaningful changes in your life will be sabotaged by unconscious beliefs. When you are not aware of the energies you bring to a discussion with a loved one, for example, you will react defensively, even when there is no reason to do so. You'll find yourself retaliating and blaming instead of empathizing and clarifying. Each time you do this, you end up intensifying painful emotions you both already feel inside, i.e., loneliness, rejection and shame. Making darkness conscious means identifying your limiting beliefs by observing your thoughts. This is one of the most important ways of changing defensive patterns of relating to yourself and loved ones.
  3. Pain is a Wise, Master Teacher:  Increasing your emotional intelligence, becoming more emotionally mature, requires that you give your unconscious mind full permission to send you images and symbols that conjure the complete range of emotions, including pain. Pain makes you vulnerable. Pain teaches and stretches your heart in ways that help you really practice unconditional love towards yourself and others. Pain teaches you what doesn’t work and strengthens your resolve. Pain teaches you how deeply and passionately you love. 
There are no shortcuts here. So, do not give yourself permission to quit! I repeat, DO NOT GIVE YOURSELF PERMISSION TO QUIT!!! The more fiercely you feel challenged, the important it is for you to make use of the Three Golden Keys of Meaningful Change. Don't allow your fears and limiting thoughts stifle your love and happiness another day. Affirm yourself and the great potential of your destiny by relinquishing your fears and learning to speak the language of success and possibilities. Believe that you can master your inner world of emotions and consciously choose the emotions you want to create within your self and your relationship. Learn to focus on what you love, while also allowing your fears to gently inform your decision-making in a balanced way. The choice is yours!
