Sometimes, I Just Want to Know What to Do Next

Do you ever feel like you're reinventing the wheel? I remember when I was in my 20's and I had just committed my life to Orisa Lifestyle. I was so excited! Everything I listened to, read and did was an adventure in identity restoration. At the same time, however, my early experiences were very confusing. 

I remember when I wanted to study Yoruba language, for example. I searched high and low, East and West. But the CLOSEST thing I could find was audio tapes in the Language Lab at the University... Really? I couldn't believe it. But today, 20 years later, the situation has not changed much. Fortunately, there are a couple of online classes. But nothing on the local level. 

Similarly, when I was studying sacred drumming, I distinctly remember how there was no explanation of what I was supposed to learn first, second or third. The teaching methodology was more like the sink or swim technique. They'd tell me to sit down and then start to play along. After a while, I started to figure out some basic principles of the music, like the relationship between the bell pattern and the down beat. 

And then, when I started learning to recite verses, it was the exact same thing all over again. Someone would say, This verse if for protection and this one is for calibration and this one is for progress. Maybe he would go as far as telling me to record them and listen on my own time. I kept thinking to myself, This cannot be the way the Ancients have kept this tradition alive for thousands of years! I JUST WISH SOMEONE WOULD TELL ME WHAT I AM SUPPOSED TO DO NEXT!!!

Well, after more than fifteen years of waiting, I made a discovery... In the process of creating a system that worked for MYSELF and my clients, I had inadvertently crafted the outline of an Orisa Lifestyle pedagogy. It forms the basis of my educational projects, which include:
